News : JMM Case Reports supports World Antibiotic Awareness Week

16 November 2017

This week is World Antibiotic Awareness Week, dedicated to raising awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) worldwide and encouraging discussions between scientists, the general public and policy-makers to develop new ways of dealing with AMR.

Antimicrobial resistant infections cause over 700,000 deaths worldwide annually, with an estimated 10 million deaths per year by 2050 if the situation is not addressed. England’s Chief Medical Officer Professor Dame Sally Davies recently stated that we could be facing “a dreadful post-antibiotic apocalypse”, so it is vital that ways of mitigating this must be examined.

JMM Case Reports encourages submissions of all work on antimicrobial resistance that has a genomic approach. A collection on AMR has also been created using published articles from the Society journals Microbial Genomics, Microbiology, Journal of Medical Microbiology and JMM Case Reports.
